Grilled Asparagus

grilled asparagus recipe

I love it when my husband grills.  Especially when he grills asparagus!

  • 1 lb. Asparagus
  • ½ tsp. Salt
  • ½ tsp. Pepper
  • 2 Tbsp.  Olive Oil Coconut Oil  Note: I have since learned that olive oil is not suitable for high heat cooking.  Please use coconut oil or grapeseed oil in lieu of the olive oil.  Thank you for your cooperation in the matter.
  • Wood chips for smoking (optional)

Soak the wood chips in water at least 30 minutes.  Prepare the coals if using a charcoal grill.

Wash asparagus, trim the ends if necessary, and peel the bottom tougher part of the stalks if necessary.

Mix oil and seasonings and brush the stalks with the mixture.

When coals are ready drain wood chips and add to the hot coals.  Allow them to smoke fully.  If using a gas grill put the chips in a foil pan, cover with foil, poke holes in the foil and set directly on the bars over the lit burner, place the grates on top.  Begin grilling when fully smoking.

Place seasoned vegetables on grill, perpendicular  to the grates.

Grill asparagus over direct medium heat for 4 to 6 minutes or until browned in places but not charred.  Turn stalks occasionally.  Enjoy the amazingness!
